Project Experience Synopsis

has solved an unusually diverse set of engineering problems. Some examples include:

  • Provided conceptual supporting and stiffening design for avoid shell out of roundness of a thinner shell column supported in horizontal position during hydrostatic test.
  • Provided design and analysis support for a manufacturer of dry storage silos and hoppers, and for several manufacturers of ASME Code pressure vessels.
  • Designed a large process piping loop subjected to high thermal loads.
  • Performed documentation and visual or non destructive examination of pressure vessels and storage vessels for several chemical manufacturers.
  • Evaluated severely corroded tanks and vessels, and recommended safety critical modifications and re-inspection programs.

This is a recently completed ABAQUS model of a φmax=6370 mm conical reduction, for which PROMEC provided the design basis ASME stress analysis for a large manufacturer. The column support skirt is welded to the conical reduction. Because of the column height, pressure stresses were excessively high in the hydro test condition, and traditional vessel design software was not well suited to the task.  Several analysis iterations and physical modifications were evaluated before converging on this arrangement, which meets all VSR ed. 99 material stress limits, although a Division 2 design by analysis approach was utilized.
